2K Games has welcomed Ben Brinkman from the creators of Apex Legends to lead the studio crew at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the anticipated third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.
The new appointee takes on the role of studio head at 31st Union following the exit of previous head Michael Condrey, who was reportedly let go due to Project Ethos' underwhelming initial reveal last autumn.
Recently, the company's top executive a key figure updated team members about this strategic move through an internal memo, which highlighted that early feedback sessions had revealed the need for a clearer game identity.
Ismailer expressed that the team is now overhauling the project with a refreshed focus, aiming to satisfy gamer demands.
The news mirrors a comparable step taken by the publisher in August, when they recruited an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock development group.
Here is the full text from Ismailer's communication:
Dear Team—
I understand you all just wrapped up your meeting - I trust you’re as excited as I am with the recent updates. Previously I sent you all a update, I expressed the following: “I am confident in this crew. You all are some of the most motivated and creative creators we have had the pleasure to collaborate with - and we’re excited for that collaboration to endure.”
Through your commitment and flexibility, especially over the last year, you repeatedly show that.
The community feedback from last autumn’s Project ETHOS playtest was revealing. It affirmed the appeal of a roguelike shooter but indicated we still had work to do. It uncovered the requirement for a more distinct brand.
The progress is encouraging to see how far you’ve progressed. You embraced the feedback to consideration and revamped the title with a renewed goal - one that’s ready to fulfill its ambition to our audience.
Our confidence in this project grows every day. To further the remarkable advancement you’ve made, It is a pleasure to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Director of the team. After some time of conversations, Ben starts with us on the specified date.
Ben’s leadership and background in the PVP shooter field is vast, having devoted the recent years producing and overseeing some of the most popular titles in the industry, such as the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, the battle royale hit.
Please join me in greeting Ben soon. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the development of the game in the weeks to ahead.
The President
The appointee presently holds the role of senior developer and production lead at Respawn Entertainment for Apex Legends. He previously worked at Treyarch and Activision in multiple production roles on the iconic franchise series, and, before that, had assignments at 2K and Electronic Arts.
The upcoming game was unveiled in last year together with a community playtest. At the time, 31st Union portrayed the title as a "no-cost, third-person perspective roguelike hero shooter and an exciting advancement on the category."
"Build your perfect run—or die trying—in this 3rd-person action shooter! Build your hero in live gameplay to fit your unique tactics," the description states. "Take on the rivals with fresh skills, risks, and challenges that change every session. Do you withdraw carefully with your collected items? Or aim high, gamble everything, and hope your group can secure victory? The decision is yours."
Project Ethos lacks an official release date or platforms, but players can look forward to additional details as creation continues.
